DES PLAINES, IL -- (MARKET WIRE) -- December 7, 2006 -- Schawk, Inc. (NYSE: SGK), one of the world's leading providers of digital brand image management solutions to the consumer products packaging industry, announced today that its Los Angeles facility has received chain-of-custody certification from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The process of certification involved an extensive audit of Schawk's inventory procedures and printing services and solutions. Schawk's Los Angeles facility offers full premedia and printing services to the entertainment, advertising agency and retail industries.

The FSC chain-of-custody tracks timber through every stage of the supply chain, from the forest to the final user. Any end product with the FSC label -- a printed brochure, annual report, poster or package -- can be tracked back to the plot of land from which the trees were harvested, to the paper mill from which the resource was processed, and finally to the merchant selling the paper. The FSC label provides a guarantee about the production of FSC-certified products, and the chain-of-custody standards are the mechanisms the Council has for ensuring that the guarantee is delivered.

This certification enables Schawk to assure its customers that their requests for FSC-certified paper can be documented all the way through the supply chain. Operations that have been independently verified for FSC chain-of-custody certification, such as Schawk's Los Angeles facility, are eligible to label their products with the FSC logo.

"This certification demonstrates Schawk's ability to work with clients to help them meet their corporate sustainability goals as global citizens and stewards of the environment," said David A. Schawk, president and chief executive officer. "Our clients may be assured that we are working with our suppliers to ensure the credibility of the products we buy from them.

"The idea that Schawk's actions as an organization must reflect a high degree of social responsibility is consistent with our core beliefs and our commitment to our clients, shareholders and employees," added Schawk. "Our history is bright with examples of industry-leading efforts to develop, practice and promote sustainable actions designed to protect the environment. We have practiced this as a matter of culture and conscience, not external regulation. As a result, our operations throughout the world continue to exceed the standards by which they are judged."

The Forest Stewardship Council itself does not certify forest operations or manufacturers. This maintains the Council's independence between its standards and requirements and the operations seeking certification. Certification is carried out by FSC-accredited certification bodies, such as Scientific Certification Systems (SCS). Each supplier in the chain of custody that has been certified is assigned a unique registration number. Schawk's SCS Certification Registration Number is SCS-COC-00920.
