KONE Corporation, Press Release, 26 January, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. Finnish time KONE Wins Another Major Order for Moscow-City KONE will deliver all 52 elevators and 6 escalators for the twin-tower project named Capital City in the Moscow International Business Centre known as Moscow- City. Four of the elevators will be dual-purpose high-rise double-deck elevators, which can be operated either in passenger or service mode. 34 of the elevators will be equipped with KONE's destination control system (DCS). Installation of the equipment is expected to start mid-2007 and continue through 2008. The multi-functional double-tower building and connecting office blocks will serve as a luxury residential, office, entertainment and shopping complex, rising up to 274 meters. The higher tower, with 73 stories, will be the tallest residential building in Europe. "This order is a result of several years' collaboration with the local customer, Capital Group; architects; consultants; local authorities; and the owner-builder, Ant Yapi," concludes Klaus Cawén, KONE's Executive Vice President. Moscow-City, which involves 18 high-rise projects with multi-functional buildings, will add more than 2 million square meters of commercial space in eastern Moscow. Five high-rise projects are already under construction, two of which have been awarded to KONE. Earlier, KONE has been chosen to provide elevators and escalators for the Naberezhnaya project. In a destination control system, passengers indicate their destination floor in the lobby before entering the elevator and are then directed to a specific elevator. Double-deck elevators consist of two elevator cars on top of the other in the same hoist-way, thus enabling more efficient use of the building core space. Dual-purpose double-deck elevators save additionally the extra hoist-way space usually needed for the service elevators.
