CCNMatthews Continues Support of XBRL Canada's Updated Taxonomy; Canadian Taxonomy Project to Be Discussed at XBRL Conference Feb. 13-14

TORONTO--(CCNMatthews - February 05, 2007) - CCNMatthews, a leading distributor of news releases, multimedia content and photos, in its continued efforts to educate the public about XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language), announced today its continued support of XBRL Canada's proposed updated taxonomy, a bilingual dictionary of accounting terms for Canadian public companies. The new taxonomy is essential in preparing XBRL-based financial statements developed in accordance with Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. XBRL International also has recently acknowledged this new taxonomy, ensuring compliance with current version 2.1 of the XBRL Specification. The CCNMatthews-sponsored XBRL Canada Conference (http://www.xbrl.ca/) will feature a discussion of the Canadian Taxonomy Project, Feb. 13-14, at the Minton Suite Hotel in Ottawa. CCNMatthews' Technology and XBRL Specialist Karl Oanes and CTO Ronald Rodriguez have been major contributors to XBRL Canada and their initiatives; the duo are scheduled to present on XBRL during the February conference. "From hosting XBRL Canada's website to providing our expertise in key participatory roles, CCNMatthews is greatly involved with XBRL Canada and is at the forefront of XBRL Canada's initiative to advance this important business reporting language to public companies throughout Canada," said Michael Nowlan, president and CEO of CCNMatthews. "Providing our customers with the latest technologies to aid in their news distribution has always been our top priority, and our continued support of XBRL Canada ensures our customers have the latest information and the greatest support regarding XBRL." The updated taxonomy encompasses all Canadian accounting standards to date, including the Financial Instruments Standard, and will be useful for companies who wish to file with the Securities Commissions under the recently announced Canadian Voluntary Program. To comply with the Financial Instruments Standard, the taxonomy includes an income statement and statement of retained earnings with and without comprehensive income as well as provision for a separate statement of other comprehensive income. The documentation in the updated taxonomy has been substantially improved, describing the elements more clearly so as to reduce the possibility of inconsistencies in applications. The new taxonomy has also been completely updated with references to the CICA handbook. This will be helpful to companies using the taxonomy, as they will have a ready reference to the accounting standards that cover the taxonomy elements.
