CO2 Tech to Present Governor Rendell of Pennsylvania With Action Plan to Solve Soil Contamination in the State

LONDON, Feb. 5, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- CO2 Tech (Pink Sheets:CTTD) President, Ms. Helga Schotten, today announced that CO2 Tech is working on its proposed action plan to solve soil contamination in the State of Pennsylvania, USA, as part of the state's efforts to protect and restore Pennsylvania's natural resources.

Pennsylvania is plagued with environmental challenges. More than any other state in the U.S., Pennsylvania suffers the hazards of abandoned mines. There are more than 2,000 abandoned and flooding mine pools statewide, discharging polluted water from about 5,000 known points that threaten the health of rivers and streams.

More than 3,000 miles of streams are impaired by polluted mine drainage -- greater than the distance between Harrisburg and Las Vegas; $60 million in recreational spending is lost due to acid mine drainage in good fishing streams. Furthermore, 8,529 acres of unreclaimed coal refuse piles contain at least 258 million tons of waste coal that scar the landscape and cause pollution. Pennsylvania also has more than 10,000 chemical-contaminated sites in need of cleanup and redevelopment.

CO2 is currently working on a detailed action plan to reduce soil contamination in Pennsylvania, and reclaim contaminated sites. The action plan will be carried out in conjunction with the state government, which is highly motivated to initiate cleanup and reclamation operations as soon as possible. After analysis of all relevant data, CO2 will present its action plan for approval by Governor Rendell.

About Pennsylvania's Growing Greener II Initiative:

From Pittsburgh to Philadelphia and Harrisburg to Scranton, newspapers have given Growing Greener II rave reviews. As a critical effort to revitalize towns and cities all across Pennsylvania, the Governor and his cabinet have taken the message of a reinvigorated Pennsylvania to every corner of the state. The response has been fantastic.

Growing Greener II will help clean up polluted streams, reclaim abandoned mines and clean up brownfields, fund important farm preservation and open space protection initiatives, invest in clean energy sources, improve recreation resources and inject new life into Pennsylvania's communities. Through voter approval on May 17, 2005 of a $625 million bond issue, Growing Greener II is the best step the state can take to create a vibrant Pennsylvania that everyone desires. "Commendably, Gov. Ed Rendell recognizes the value and importance of preserving open space, including farmland, and proposes to do something about it in significant fashion," noted the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on the Growing Greener II initiative.
