Local Proceedings Regarding Anticompetitive Practices by Elevator and Escalator
Companies in Austria

KONE's Austrian subsidiary has been notified by the Austrian cartel court of the
initiation of proceedings for the imposition of fines against companies operating
in the Austrian elevator and escalator market including KONE's Austrian
subsidiary. The case relates to alleged anticompetitive practices in the local
market before mid 2004.

KONE has immediately initiated a thorough internal investigation.
