United Arab Emirates Selects EMS SATCOM for Expertise to Establish Search and Rescue Capabilities

Equipment, Training, Organizational Plan and Protocol Guidelines to Enhance UAE National SAR Infrastructure

OTTAWA and ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates, Feb. 20, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- EMS SATCOM, a division of EMS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:ELMG), reported today at IDEX, a defense technology exhibition in Abu Dhabi that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has selected EMS SATCOM to deliver a comprehensive Search and Rescue (SAR) solution to the UAE. The contract, which would be worth approximately $5 million, is the impetus for creating a National Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC) and Secretariat in the UAE with deliverables that include draft policy, legislation, regulations, organizational planning and protocol guidelines to help empower the new SAR center. EMS SATCOM's COSPAS-SARSAT products will be a central foundation for an enhanced SAR monitoring and response solution.

In a new initiative, EMS SATCOM's Emergency Management Group team will leverage its expertise developed during 30 years in the SAR industry to create a broad-based solution and facilitate the UAE's entry into the SAR community. The UAE's SAR system will include EMS SATCOM's full suite of emergency management products, including, its LEOLUT (Low Earth Orbit Local User Terminal), GEOLUT (Geosynchronous Earth Orbit Local User Terminal), MCC (Mission Control Center) and multiple SARMaster RCCs (Rescue Coordination Centers), as well as an extensive suite of training and policy development guidelines. The ultimate result of the work is the creation of a National RCC and SAR Secretariat for the UAE.

"We have been developing Search and Rescue equipment for nearly 30 years," says EMS SATCOM Senior Vice President and General Manager Neil Mackay. "In that time, we have seen the entry and progression of 24 countries into the SAR field. This is a key capability for the UAE and we are extremely pleased to be able to provide not only our equipment, but also a highly skilled team of SAR veterans for this important program."

"This is an important initiative for our government and we want to position ourselves for success by selecting a leading SAR solution provider," says a UAE Official. "EMS SATCOM has the experience and expertise to offer us a turn-key solution, from its equipment to one of the industry's best practices, which will be instrumental in setting up our National RCC and Secretariat. This will also allow us to increase SAR capabilities in the GCC region."
