DETROIT, Feb. 27, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Franchon Stinger of Fox 2 News will act as host and Mistress of Ceremonies at the annual Girls Matter Conference geared towards girls ages 9-17, their parents and professionals who serve them. Friday, March 2 at Wayne State University, in the Community Arts Auditorium from 6:30PM-8:30PM, will kick off the first day of the conference with Karen Bokram, Founding Editor and Publisher of Girl's Life Magazine who will deliver her keynote address for the conference. This will set the stage for the workshops that will take place the following day, Saturday, March 3, from 9:00AM to 2:15PM at Schoolcraft College in Livonia at the VisTaTech Center.

This conference is geared towards educating young girls about self-esteem, cliques, aggression, financial goals, career building, leadership skills, goal setting, reality about dating violence and body image. Girls Matter also serves in building happier, healthier and more confident young women, improving and maintaining strong and healthy parent/daughter relationship while working in partnership with community groups, schools and local leaders. The Girls Matter Conferences are collaborative high profile activities that expose girls and parents to workshops, area resources and organizations that support and are available to serve them year round.

Girls Matter is a project of Girls Empowered, an organization that has served over 25,000 girls since its inception. The goal of Girls Empowered and other partnering organizations is to offer year round programs that benefit girls and their parents.

Workshops offered on May 3, at Schoolcraft College encompass such titles as "Who Am I?", "How to Create the Life you Want," "Seeds of Greatness, Accept the Challenge" to mention a few of the many workshops geared towards ages ranging from 9-17. Workshops entitled "Enlightened Parenting" and "Creating a Culture of Accountability in Your Home" are only a couple of many informative workshops offered geared towards parents, adults, guardians and anyone that has the responsibility of guiding young adults.
