SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 14, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Foundry Networks(r), Inc. (Nasdaq:FDRY), a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching and routing, today announced additions to its IronPoint Mobility portfolio that will facilitate and reduce the cost of wireless deployments and enhance the security of the wireless LAN infrastructure. The IronPoint Mobility RS4000 radio switch applies intelligent RF clustering to achieve high-density access point operation. This solution increases wireless client density support by 1,000 percent when compared to conventional access points. The IronPoint Mobility RS4000 is ideal for environments including classrooms, auditoriums, conference centers, theaters and other facilities in which there is a large concentration of wireless users.

The new IronPoint Mobility AP150 features many of the innovative features that have made the IronPoint Mobility Series the highest performing wireless LAN solution in the industry. Foundry's IronPoint Mobility AP150 is ideal for customers looking to deploy dedicated access points in combination with stand-alone sensors for rogue AP detection and intrusion prevention. Supported features include over-the-air quality of service to enable high-quality voice over WLAN (VoWLAN), single channel deployment and centralized RF bandwidth management for high density environments to as many as 128 mobile clients. This is five times the capacity of traditional access points.
Foundry's IronPoint Wireless Location Manager (WLM) application has been enhanced with real-time visual RF mapping, automatic location reporting and network access management providing enterprises with advanced network visualization and location-based access control for total control of the wireless LAN infrastructure.
"Wireless security is a growing concern for individuals and enterprises due to the proliferation of wireless users and access points," said Rachna Ahlawat, research director for Gartner, Inc. "Emerging wireless security and location mapping solutions that add an advanced layer of defense by detecting, alerting and pinpointing the location of rogue access points and unauthorized wireless clients can significantly protect enterprises from security threats and minimize operational costs by reducing IT administrator resources."
"Enterprises are being pushed to deliver a broad range of mobility solutions to their users, but actual deployment in many organizations has been slowed by the management, performance and scalability limitations of conventional wireless LAN solutions," said Bob Schiff, vice president and general manager for Foundry's enterprise business unit. "Our new IronPoint Mobility products and WLM application remove these limitations, providing scalable and cost-effective solutions for high-density and converged wireless deployments with an ease of deployment and operations that is unmatched in the industry."
The IronPoint Mobility RS4000 dynamically reserves radio bandwidth per client enabling support for very high-density environments and high-quality converged mobile voice and data deployments. Using the IronPoint Mobility RS4000, organizations are no longer bound to the density and performance trade-off associated with traditional access point technology. The RS4000 is a plug-and-play upgrade to existing wireless LANs and requires no RF site surveys or re-planning of the wireless channel allocation. The innovative wide-band antenna on the RS4000 is available in omni-directional and directional configurations, allowing for precise control of the coverage area. The RS4000 is ideally suited for use in high density environments achieving a 1,000 percent increase, i.e., up to 256 clients, in wireless endpoint capacity compared to traditional access point solutions.
The IronPoint Mobility AP150 is the easiest-to-deploy access point in its class. It automatically discovers and configures itself and intelligently load-balances connecting wireless clients. The IronPoint Mobility AP150 a dual-radio, tri-mode access point supporting IEEE 802.11 a/b/g operation. Centrally controlled by an IronPoint Mobility Controller, the AP150 supports single channel deployment in which multiple AP150 units can operate on the same radio channel. Single channel deployment simplifies channel management and reduces the cost and time to deploy. Lastly, the AP150 supports over-the-air QoS, providing contention free wireless access and support for high-density deployments.
The IronPoint Wireless Location Manager (WLM) centralizes wireless access security, RF coverage and asset management capabilities using real-time, location-based intelligence. This powerful visualization application automatically detects, locates and graphically reports all authorized and unauthorized access points and wireless clients throughout a building complex. Additionally, IronPoint WLM supports location-based access control allowing the network operator to control network access based on the physical location of the wireless endpoint. IronPoint WLM v2.02 introduces support for all IronPoint Mobility Controllers and Access Points with enhanced location accuracy and access control. Users no longer need to deploy a parallel overlay sensor network or use 'hybrid' in-line RF scanning of normal APs to provide rogue AP detection and asset management. IronPoint Mobility AP200 access points support a unique dual-radio, dual-mode operation allowing one radio to operate as a 'data' radio and the other as an 'RF scanning' radio. This greatly lowers RF sensor deployment cost with integrate real-time RF scanning. Once the IronPoint Mobility APs are deployed, the automatic calibration feature provides easy set-up eliminating complicated surveys and calibration.
