Egenera Announces New Processing Blade With 64GB Memory Based on AMD Opteron(TM) Processors
Company's Largest Memory Offering Certified for Windows, RHEL, SUSE and Solaris
| Source: Egenera
MARLBORO, MA--(Marketwire - June 6, 2007) - Egenera Inc., the data center virtualization
company, today announced it will expand its Egenera® Processing Blade™
(pBlade) family with a new pBlade with 64GB memory, based on four-socket,
dual-core Second-Generation AMD Opteron™ Model 8220 SE processors. The
new pBlade will be Egenera's largest memory offering, certified to support
Microsoft® Windows®, Red Hat® Enterprise Linux®, SUSE Linux
Enterprise and Sun® Solaris™ 10 operating systems.
Enterprises running Oracle, SAP and other high-end, mission critical
applications can take advantage of the new pBlade's large memory size for
enhanced performance and scalability. In addition, the expanding use of
virtual machine technology is driving requirements for more memory, as
customers seek to consolidate many applications onto a single blade.
Egenera will continue to use its standard 1U form factor for this new
blade. While some other blade systems require the use of double-width
blades for configurations utilizing four CPUs or large memory
configurations, Egenera customers have choice and flexibility without
having to compromise footprint.
The new Egenera pBlade will be populated with 4 AMD Opteron Model 8220 SE
dual-core processors at the speed of 2.8GHz with 64GB of memory.
Egenera pBlades are diskless and stateless processing blades within the
Egenera® BladeFrame® System. This enables automated allocation,
repurposing and failover since any server can assume the identity of any
other server. The BladeFrame combines these stateless blades with unique
virtualization software to dramatically reduce data center complexity and
deliver an agile, highly-available infrastructure. A single Egenera system
can simultaneously run processing blades with various processor
architectures and operating systems, enabling customers to automatically
align computing resources to application requirements and scale performance
dynamically.
"Egenera developed this large memory blade as a direct result of customer
demand, in order to meet the requirements of their most mission critical
applications," said Susan Davis, vice president, Egenera. "We continue to
deliver a new standard in performance and memory capabilities resulting in
significant advantages in application performance. We also continue to
work closely with AMD to leverage their innovations for enterprise
customers."
Availability
The 64GB pBlade based on the AMD Opteron Model 8220 SE processor will be
commercially available in Q2 of 2007.
