Cleco Power Files to Issue RFP for Power Supply
| Source: Cleco Corp.
PINEVILLE, LA--(Marketwire - June 27, 2007) - Cleco Power LLC, a subsidiary of Cleco Corp.
(NYSE : CNL ), is looking for proposals to supply its customers with up to
approximately 600 megawatts of intermediate and/or peaking capacity
starting Jan. 1, 2010, to fill projected long-term load growth
requirements.
The power-supply initiative is the subject of an informational filing made
today by Cleco Power with the Louisiana Public Service Commission (LPSC).
The filing notified the LPSC of the company's intent to issue a request for
proposals (RFP) for either firm electric capacity and energy contracts or
the purchase of generation facilities. To investigate all opportunities to
supply reliable power at the lowest reasonable cost, Cleco Power will test
a number of self-build options against the market.
Selections from the RFP will require prior authorization of the LPSC
pursuant to a certificate of public convenience and necessity. Also, the
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission would have authority to review
agreements for certain asset purchases and power purchases if any are
selected.
"Once again, our goal is to meet our customers' growing needs with the most
economic resources," said Dilek Samil, president and chief operating
officer of Cleco Power. Cleco Power owns approximately 1,350 MW of
generation and is currently constructing a 600 MW solid-fuel unit with an
expected commercial operation date of late 2009. Cleco Power currently
supplements its power needs through short-term power purchase agreements
totaling 750 MW.
Cleco Corp. is a regional energy company headquartered in Pineville, La.
It operates a regulated electric utility company that serves 268,000
