Hot Temperatures, Cool Gas Prices

IRVING, TX--(Marketwire - August 10, 2007) - Temperatures across Texas are on the rise, but gas prices continue to cool down as Texans on average are paying approximately 20 cents less at the pump than at the same time last year. This week, the average for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline fell more than five cents to $2.74, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. Prices are also lower across the country as the national average for a gallon of gasoline fell another five cents to $2.814 a gallon.

Amarillo and Corpus Christi continue to register the highest and lowest average gas prices across the state. Amarillo tops the list once again with panhandle consumers paying an average retail price of $2.88 a gallon. For the fourth week in a row Corpus Christi had the lowest weekly average in the survey at $2.57 a gallon -- down more than five cents from last week.

AAA Texas Fuel Savings Tip of the Week

"Inflate tires according to manufacturer recommendations," says AAA Texas spokesperson Paul Flaningan. "Under-inflated tires are a safety hazard and can cut fuel economy by as much as two percent per pound of pressure below the recommended level."
