Colorcon Acquires Pharmaceutical Excipients and Coating Division of Chr. Hansen, Inc.


WEST POINT, Pa., Sept. 5, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Colorcon, Inc. today announced the acquisition of the Pharmaceutical Excipients and Coating Division of Chr. Hansen, Inc. This acquisition expands Colorcon's global product offerings in the Pharmaceutical and Nutritional markets.

In addition to coatings, acquired products include compressible sugars/NU-Tab(R), calcium carbonate/Cal-Carb(R) and sugar spheres. NU-Tab(R) is used in a wide range of chewable applications, including children's vitamins and medications, and for taste masking bitter or unpleasant drugs. Cal-Carb(R) is an ideal excipient for use in conventional tablets as well as calcium and mineral supplement products. Sugar spheres are used primarily in controlled release formulations. Controlled release formulations using multi particulates provide consistent drug release over time. Using sugar spheres, Colorcon expects to accelerate new product development efforts, as well as improve existing solutions for controlled release.

The Stoughton, Wisconsin facility purchased from Chr. Hansen will become an integral part of the Colorcon network of manufacturing sites.
