Finisar Ships Industry's First Fabry-Perot Laser Diode Optical Components for 10GBASE-LRM Applications
New Transmitters and Receivers Offer Superior Performance, Low-Power, and Better Control Compared to Distributed Feedback Lasers
| Source: Finisar
SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - September 10, 2007) - Finisar Corporation (NASDAQ : FNSR ), the world
leader in fiber optic solutions for high speed communication networks,
today announced availability of the industry's only transmitter and
receiver optical subassembly pairs (TOSA/ROSA) for the IEEE 10GBASE-LRM
standard using Fabry-Perot lasers and PIN detectors. Several innovations
introduced with these devices extend performance, conserve power, and
expand control. Demonstrations will be held in Finisar's booth #17048 at
ECOC, September 17-19, 2007.
To date, LRM products on the market have been based on more expensive and
power hungry Distributed Feedback Lasers (DFB). Finisar's Advanced Optical
Components TOSA utilizes Fabry-Perot laser diodes which are inherently less
expensive but still able to meet all the performance requirements of the
IEEE 10GBASE-LRM standard. In addition, Fabry-Perot laser diodes
substantially reduce overall transceiver power consumption.
Within the ROSA, automatic gain control and receive-signal detect
capabilities enable developers to optimize individual link performance and
implement intelligent fault detection. Within the TOSA, a unique impedance
matching network reduces power consumption. Additionally, the TOSA and ROSA
are offered in two connector options (SC and LC) and include a flex circuit
for simplified electrical connectivity.
"Our Fabry-Perot-based products continue Finisar's tradition of offering
high reliability, competitive pricing, and high-volume manufacturing while
meeting customers' stringent performance requirements," said Dr. Jim Tatum,
director of marketing for Advanced Optical Components at Finisar. "These
new 1310 nm LRM subassemblies are important additions to Finisar's existing
portfolio of 850nm short reach products. They further enhance Finisar's
position as a market leader in short-reach optical subassemblies."
The 10Gb LRM TOSA and ROSA pairs are available today for evaluation or
high-volume production. Custom solutions are also available. For more
