"Healthwise(R) Handbook" Brings Home the "Gold"

Healthwise Information Recognized as the Best in Consumer Health Information

BOISE, ID--(Marketwire - October 2, 2007) - The "Healthwise Handbook," a self-care guide for families, has won a Gold Award from the 2007 National Health Information Awards Program. The "Healthwise Handbook" was chosen from more than 1,000 entries judged by a national panel of health information experts. No other book in the health promotion class received a gold award.

"It's like winning an Olympic gold," said Donald W. Kemper, Healthwise founder and CEO, and author of the book. "Our Healthwise book team outdid themselves this time."

The National Health Information Awards Program is coordinated by the Health Information Resource Center, a national clearinghouse for consumer health information programs and materials. This awards program, the most comprehensive of its kind, recognizes the best consumer health information in materials and programs from organizations throughout the nation.

"Since 1975, the "Healthwise Handbook" has gone through 17 editions on the way to selling over 30 million copies worldwide," said Kemper. "But the 17th edition has set a new standard for health books. For hundreds of the most common health problems, it presents in plain language what you can do for yourself and how best to manage the care you need."

The Healthwise family of self-care guides -- "Healthwise Handbook," "Healthwise for Life," and "La salud en casa: Guía práctica de Healthwise" -- has been recently redesigned, reorganized, and produced in full color. Written in plain language and designed with the consumer in mind, Healthwise self-care guides help people know what to do at home and when to call a doctor. The printed self-care books also include Go-to-Web codes that point people to more in-depth information in the online Healthwise Knowledgebase.

Through the years, Healthwise publications have won numerous awards. Recently, "Healthwise for Life" won an Association of Medical Illustrators certificate of merit for its medical illustrations.
