BOCA RATON, FL--(Marketwire - October 2, 2007) - Airspan Networks Inc. (NASDAQ: AIRN), a
leading worldwide provider of WiMAX and Wi-Fi based broadband wireless
access networks, announced today that Telenor has selected Airspan to
provide WiMAX equipment and services under a multi-year agreement for its
Norwegian operations. Initial deployments are targeted for the Trøndelag
area in central Norway.
Telenor has 3.5GHz licences in Norway covering the entire country and the
Airspan WiMAX equipment is targeted for broadband connections to rural
areas where service is currently unavailable. Airspan will supply both its
HiperMAX and MicroMAX base stations together with its EasyST indoor and
ProST outdoor subscriber terminals.
Anders Rendahl, Airspan's Vice President of Sales and General Manager of
EMEA, commented, "We are very pleased to be working with Telenor in its
first WiMAX initiative in Norway as Airspan's product portfolio is designed
to meet the needs of both rural and urban environments."
Berit Svendsen, Head of Telenor Nordic Fixed, said, "We look forward to
working with Airspan in growing our WiMAX presence across all the regions
of Norway where Airspan's product platform will allow us to pursue the
significant WiMAX market opportunity over the coming years. We found that
Airspan's WiMAX product range offers the best solution in the market for
bringing WiMAX broadband service to rural areas of Norway outside the reach
of DSL."
Airspan's HiperMAX Base Station and Indoor EasyST WiMAX modem support both
Fixed WiMAX (16d) and Mobile WiMAX (16e) System Profiles. This, combined
with support for 5, 7 and 10 MHz channels, ensures the solution is highly
scaleable, delivering up to 32Mbit/s per channel, and up to 12 channels per
Base Station. HiperMAX supports advanced multi-channel Receiver and
Transmit diversity, and MIMO that delivers class-leading operational range
and true indoor coverage.
