Nirvana(R) Integrates Storage Resource Broker(R) and Sun StorageTek(TM) 5800

SRB & StorageTek(TM) 5800 Together Provide Powerful Archiving Capabilities

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - November 12, 2007) - Nirvana, a division of General Atomics (GA), today announced that it has completed the integration of the Sun StorageTek™ 5800 with Nirvana's Storage Resource Broker® (SRB®) software. This powerful combination of the world's most advanced data grid software and the scalable, intelligent storage system from Sun delivers unique capabilities and unprecedented value to users in complex systems environments.

The StorageTek 5800 represents an entirely new software-driven storage architecture designed to address the unique information storage requirements of fixed content, serving key collaborative and archiving applications such as digitization and preservation, medical imaging and records, Web harvesting, and federated repositories.

Nirvana is experienced in serving customers in federated HPC/ NIC, with digital libraries and archives, and some of the world's largest and most advanced image, sensor and forensic data federations. GA founded and managed the San Diego Supercomputer Center for more than two decades.

"The StorageTek 5800 is a natural fit for the most demanding grids and repositories. It is a large-scale product, with an attractive TCO, and the SRB Federation will simplify its introduction into the most complex distributed environments," according to Constantin Scheder, General Director of the Nirvana division.

"An SRB federation really simplifies the most urgent initiatives where we expect the StorageTek 5800 to play a role for our customers, such as cross-domain and cross-system security, archiving, tiered storage, disaster recovery, replication, technology refresh and mass migrations," said Gail Truman, senior product manager for the StorageTek 5800 system, Sun Microsystems.
