Emulex Supports LightPulse HBAs With Oracle's New Virtualization Software, Oracle VM

Emulex Fibre Channel HBAs Provide Enterprise-Class, Field-Proven Technology for Oracle-Based Virtual Server Environments

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 12, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Oracle OpenWorld -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) today announced that its LightPulse(r) Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) are supported with the new Oracle(r) VM server virtualization software. Emulex has taken a leadership position in connecting virtual servers to the SAN, enabling end users to more effectively utilize their resources and more easily adjust to changing demand.

Unveiled today at Oracle OpenWorld, Oracle VM offers scalable, low-cost server virtualization which fully supports both Oracle and non-Oracle applications. This is the only server virtualization environment certified to run with an entire Oracle software stack, including Oracle Database, Oracle Fusion Middleware, the Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle's PeopleSoft Enterprise, Siebel CRM and other Oracle Applications.

"With the proliferation of server virtualization, Emulex continues to lead the way in I/O connectivity for virtual server environments, such as Oracle VM," said Mike Smith, executive vice president, worldwide marketing, Emulex Corp. "Emulex LightPulse Virtual HBA technology provides an innovative solution that enables storage administrators to manage connections from virtualized machines in the same way, and with the same management tools, as traditional physical servers."

Emulex is also working closely with Oracle to integrate support for its LightPulse Virtual HBA technology with industry-standard N-Port ID Virtualization (NPIV) into Oracle VM. This technology enables customers to effectively 'virtualize' SAN connections so that each virtual machine has independent access to its own protected storage. In addition, Emulex LightPulse Virtual HBA technology allows administrators to seamlessly deploy SAN-based virtual machines while maintaining existing SAN management tools and best practices, such as unique zoning and LUN masking at the virtual machine level.

"Oracle VM extends our ongoing dedication to providing customers with solutions that help lower the cost of their IT infrastructures," said Monica Kumar, senior director Linux and Open Source Product Marketing, Oracle. "Together with Emulex, a leader in SAN connectivity solutions for server virtualization environments, Oracle delivers a comprehensive server virtualization solution for our customers."

Emulex and Oracle are also developing enhanced end-to-end data integrity protection technology, which they plan to integrate into Oracle VM. This functionality was demonstrated last quarter in a Linux environment as part of the Data Integrity Initiative with LSI, Oracle and Seagate.

As a member of the Oracle PartnerNetwork and the first Fibre Channel HBA vendor to support the Oracle Unbreakable Linux Program, Emulex is the preferred SAN connectivity provider for Oracle environments. Together, Emulex and Oracle will continue to provide enterprise-class products that provide guaranteed interoperability, common support, and innovation.
