Tricorona welcomes official carbon offsetting guidelines

Swedish Energy Agency and Environmental Minister endorse offsetting
with Kyoto-certified projects

The Swedish Energy Agency issued yesterday official guidelines
governing voluntary offsetting of carbon emissions from businesses
and individuals. These guidelines stipulate that voluntary offsetting
should be carried out using instruments from the regulated carbon
market, such as Certified Emissions Reductions created by projects
within the framework of the Kyoto Protocol.

The guidelines echo the comments made last week by the Swedish
Minister for the Environment, Andreas Carlgren, at the Swedish
Environmental Protection Agency's annual Klimatforum, recommending
that businesses that choose to offset do so with regulated
instruments. Carlgren also announced an offset strategy for
government departments based on regulated Kyoto-projects.

Tricorona welcomes these developments. "As the company that pioneered
regulated offsetting in the Scandinavian market, we are pleased that
the type of product we offer our customers has been endorsed by the
Energy Agency and the Minister," commented Niels von Zweigbergk, CEO
of Tricorona."Offsetting plays an important role in minimising climate impact from
corporate operations," added Per Egstam, Head of Climate
Neutralisation within Tricorona. "By offsetting with our portfolio of
Kyoto-certified projects based on renewable energy, our customers not
only reduce global carbon emissions now, but also contribute to
reducing global dependence on fossil fuels over the long term."
