What started from humble beginnings with a single press in 2000, Ypsilon Digital Printing, located in Ypres, Belgium, has grown into a modern production facility. A digital printing pioneer, Ypsilon is at the forefront of developing new applications for digital printing.

With the acquisition of an Agfa Graphics :Dotrix Modular digital press earlier this year, they have the capabilities to print on different substrates for new applications including decorative artwork.

Yan Platteau, managing director of Ypsilon: "I know the origin of the :Dotrix engine. It was actually designed to print on textile and wallpaper. In the past we conducted numerous tests and trials with toner based technology. But this was not always that successful because of the limitations you have in choosing substrates. When I took a close look at the Agfa Graphics :Dotrix inkjet press, I quickly realised it was the machine I was looking for: a digital press using inks, allowing me to print on many more substrates with a far broader width and higher speeds than any other digital press today on the market."

"The :Dotrix Modular full-color inkjet press is the most productive industrial digital print solution available today" stated Willy Van Dromme, Sales & Marketing Manager Inkjet at Agfa Graphics . "Besides the common benefits of digital printing such as minimum make-ready time, instant job switching and less waste, :Dotrix Modular is capable of printing single-sided 907 square meters per hour at widths of up to 63 centimeters."

"The first application we're producing, decorative wallpaper that customers can buy in supermarkets. We (or in many projects the customers) create the novel designs, choose the right substrates and then produce, package and deliver to retailers. The customers' first reactions were extremely positive . and this is only the first application. We fully intend to develop further applications in the domain of packaging, signage, Point-of-Sale, Safety and Security printing" explains Yan Platteau.

Willy Van Dromme concludes: "With such a versatile digital press as the Agfa Graphics :Dotrix Modular digital press, digital printing innovators like Ypsilon can build up a substantial head start compared to their competitors. It allows them to use their imagination and creativity and develop new digital printing applications that were not possible before."
