Finnair has sold the last three ATR-72 turboprop aircraft operated by its Estonian subsidiary Aero to Utair, a Russian airline. The aircraft will stop operating on Aero routes this coming Sunday and will be transferred to the new owner during the first part of 2008. Out of Aero's fleet of seven ATR72s, four were sold last year. The ATR-72s have served Finnair well since 1989. Due to the Finnair time of operations and depreciation policy, the company will receive a small book value gain from the sale in the first and second quarter this year. The departure of the ATR aircraft ends Finnair's propeller era which began already back in 1923. Finnair Technical Services, however, will continue to provide ATR maintenance to other airlines. The ATRs are a popular and economic aircraft type on short routes.
