HERNDON, Va., Jan. 8, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has appointed two vice presidents at its Technical Services sector, which provides base operations, infrastructure support, performance-based logistics, supply chain management, training support and services to the U.S. Department of Defense, Department of Energy, Department of State, NASA, other governmental agencies and international customers.

David Reith has been appointed vice president and controller and Gregory A. Schmidt has been appointed vice president and general manager of strategic planning and operations.

Reith will oversee sector financial operations, including financial planning and reporting, pricing, rates, budgets, regulatory compliance, accounting, and will ensure compliance with internal control practices and company policies and procedures. He joined Northrop Grumman in 1987 and has held a number of increasingly responsible finance and business management positions in the company's Newport News and Electronic Systems sectors, including serving as business manager for the transition and integration of Litton operations into Electronic Systems. He most recently served as sector controller for Newport News.

Reith earned a bachelor's degree in business administration with minors in accounting and economics, from Western Maryland College in Westminster, Md.

Schmidt will manage strategic operations and planning, focusing on operational execution in balance with strategic planning and development of new markets and targets to rapidly expand the sector's business base and maximize profitability. He most recently served as the vice president of the radio frequency combat and information systems business area for Electronics Systems. He joined Northrop Grumman in 1982, and has held positions of increasing responsibility throughout his career in strategizing product improvements, new product opportunities and overall business growth.

Schmidt earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa., and a master's degree in technology management from the University of Maryland in College Park.
