Labor Dispute at Hilton Glendale Ends

Union to Represent Workers, Parties Pledge to Work Together

GLENDALE, CA--(Marketwire - February 27, 2008) - Workers at the Hilton Los Angeles North/Glendale & Executive Meeting Center and hotel management announced today a lengthy labor dispute was resolved with management's move to accept a decision by a majority of workers to be represented by UNITE HERE.

In announcing the agreement, workers, the union and company officials pledged to work together in negotiating a new collective bargaining agreement.

"We have been consistently supportive of our team members' wishes in regards to representation and collective bargaining. Our foremost concern remains with the smooth operation of the property and the satisfaction and comfort of our guests and meeting clients," said Benson Lee, general manager for the Hilton Glendale.

"We are excited about the prospects for improving our operations and enhancing our facilities in the coming months. To that end, given our team members' choice to be represented by UNITE HERE, we look forward to working in a positive and constructive manner with the union leadership to negotiate a fair collective bargaining agreement," Lee added.

Angela Reid, a bartender who led efforts to win union recognition, hailed the agreement: "My coworkers and I are thrilled that we will now have a real voice in the workplace, and that we can concentrate on providing the best service to guests."

Under the agreement, hotel management has recognized UNITE HERE as the bargaining agent for workers, and will enter into contract negotiations. The union, for its part, has lifted a 22-month boycott of the hotel.

Sister Mary Jean Ferry with the Sisters of Charity BVM, who has supported the efforts of workers at the Hilton Glendale, said, "I am honored to have been with the workers all this time. Each of these people is bringing justice to the world."
