CLEVELAND, OH--(Marketwire - May 13, 2008) - Embedded Planet, a leader in computer and
embedded systems solutions (www.embeddedplanet.com) today announced an
invaluable tool for telecommunications providers transitioning between
legacy circuit switched networks and newer IP-based networks. The EP50120M
Circuit Emulation Service over Packet (CESoP) module satisfies the critical
need for a simple, cost-effective method to bridge the two types of
networks and safely and effectively migrate legacy circuit switched
networks.
"This innovative module is a key enabler for facilitating the upgrade of
telecommunications devices and a critical tool in the race to deliver
next-generation services," said Mark Lowdermilk, president of Embedded
Planet. "As service providers push to gain market share through higher
reliability and faster networks, they've come to rely on Embedded Planet's
expertise, technology, support and best-of-breed solutions as a strategic
business advantage."
CESoP offers the traditional circuit emulation service over a packet
network and is used for TDM trunking over a range of transport protocols
including Internet Protocol (IP), MPLS and Ethernet. CESoP is widely used
in the access market for a wide range of applications including cell-site
backhaul, Metro Ethernet equipment, DLCs, MTU/MDU equipment, data
communications equipment, and EPON technology. CESoP technology offers low
cost per channel solutions that take advantage of CESoP's low latency.
"It is extremely important that the service providers move as quickly as
possible into the world of IP. Embedded Planet's CESoP module certainly
could be the catalyst providing feature rich, revenue producing customer
solutions," said Ernie Bergstrom, Crystal Cube Consulting's VP Research and
Chief Analyst.
The EP50120M uses a Freescale MPC8248 as the control processor and the
Zarlink ZL50120 for CESoP processing. The ZL50120 is capable of supporting
both structured and unstructured TDM data. It includes a 10/100 customer
side Ethernet port that can be used to aggregate data traffic with voice
traffic and then back hauled using the 10/100/1000 provider side port. The
EP50120M board is designed to operate as a stand-alone module for software
development and rapid prototype development. The board comes complete with
a U-Boot bootloader and VxWorks Board Support Package to speed application
development. Embedded Planet offers the board in prototype or production
quantities and a reference design package can be purchased for rapid
deployment of custom products.
