Troy University Selects Wimba to Enhance Teaching, Learning and Increase Collaboration Beyond the Classroom

Institution-Wide Implementation Will Benefit 30,000 Students on 60 Campuses Across the Globe

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - June 3, 2008) - Wimba®, the education technology company that helps people teach people, today announced that Troy University has selected the Wimba Collaboration Suite™, including the new Wimba Pronto™, to enhance student engagement, expand educational opportunities, improve collaboration and increase enrollment across all 60 of its campuses worldwide.

Troy University, comprised of 4 main campuses spread throughout Alabama with satellite locations in 16 states and 13 foreign locations across 13 time zones, as well as the eCampus online academic division, provides education to over 30,000 students who will now have access to Wimba's interactive tools. The university will immediately begin implementing Wimba in a number of innovative programs, including its Interpreter Training Program, which features a sign language interpreter, and for soldiers on active duty enrolled in distance learning courses available through its partnership with the United States GoArmyEd program.

Furthermore, by integrating Wimba's technology, Troy University plans to increase program/course access to an additional 150 students per semester. Wimba will also be used to enhance connections between faculty and students online and outside the traditional classroom setting, as well as develop synchronous online classroom experiences -- continuing Troy University's commitment to teaching excellence and support.

"We have been charged by the Chancellor to provide faculty and colleagues with the tools to excel within our extremely demanding profession," said Ronnie Creel, eCampus Director of Educational Technology at Troy University. "We chose to implement Wimba as an answer to that charge. With Wimba, we expect to significantly enhance the classroom experience in order to provide the rich, interactive and collaborative environment that fosters achievement."

The Troy University implementation marks the third integration of new Wimba Pronto since the launch of the product on May 4, 2008. Recently both Grand Rapids Community College (Mich.) and Ivy Tech Community College (Ind.) have chosen to deploy the upgraded version of the instant messaging platform -- the only instant messenger designed exclusively for education.

Wimba Pronto is one of four components that make up the Wimba Collaboration Suite, which facilitates connections between teachers and students through the use of online video, voice, instant messaging, content authoring, application sharing and white boarding. Academic institutions around the globe rely on the Wimba Collaboration Suite to meet a variety of needs ranging from providing synchronous online courses and archiving lectures to holding online office hours and collecting real-time student feedback on course content. The Wimba Collaboration Suite integrates with the most widely used course management systems including the Angel, Blackboard and Moodle platforms.

"The Wimba Collaboration Suite is much more than a virtual classroom, it is a comprehensive and interactive learning environment that allows schools to cater courses and programs to meet the needs of their ever-changing students and faculty populations," said Yancy Oshita, Chief Marketing Officer and SVP of Wimba. "We are proud to work with Troy University, and look forward to helping them achieve their goals for increased enrollment, retention and collaboration."
