Michigan Hispanic Chamber to Host Michigan Senate Majority Leader and Speaker of the House at Public Policy Luncheon June 27

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., June 3, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- The Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (MHCC) will host its Public Policy Luncheon on Friday, June 27, 2008 at the Detroit Athletic Club from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Michigan Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop (R) and Speaker of the House Andy Dillon will address bi-partisan efforts on Michigan's economic issues. The discussion will be facilitated by master of ceremony, Tim Skubick, anchor of the weekly public television series "Off the Record" and capitol correspondent for WWJ Radio. Skubick is the longest serving member of the state capitol press corps, having covered Michigan politics since 1969. He will also be moderating the questions posed by the audience.

Dillon, a first-term Democrat representing the 17th district, authored a plan that anchored an economic stimulus package. It would raise and set aside money - without any new debt - to create and retain good-paying jobs of the 21st Century and diversify Michigan's economy. He supports consumer protection and making healthcare more affordable.

Bishop is in his final term as representative of the 12th Senate District. He was elected to the Senate in 2006 and to the House in 1998. Bishop has been an advocate for smaller, more efficient government through introducing legislation to create a part-time legislature, passing public employee healthcare reforms, or advocating for a reduction in pay to state elected officials.

As an advocate for protection in the digital age, Bishop sponsored legislation to create the Michigan Child Protection Registry (CPR), the first of its kind in the United States.

Sponsored by DTE Energy, this Public Policy Luncheon is an "opportunity for Michigan's business owners and individuals to understand where the two Chambers of Michigan's Legislature stand on various economic and other issues of vital interest to the Hispanic community like small business and energy," said Raymond Lozano, executive director.
