Infinera Pushes the Optical Frontiers at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo

New System With Future Scalability to 8 Terabits, Live 100 GbE Demo on Display

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - June 12, 2008) - Infinera (NASDAQ: INFN) will display two important advances in optical networking at its booth at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 08. The new Infinera ILS2 line system, with up to 160 DWDM channels in the C-band, and future scalability up to 8 Terabits/second (Tb/s), will be on display at the Infinera booth. In addition, Infinera will be showing a demonstration transmitting 100 Gigabit Ethernet traffic live in the booth, using a 100 GbE Infinera Tributary Adapter Module running in a production Infinera DTN system.

SCTE Cable-Tec Expo takes place from Tuesday June 24th to Friday June 27th at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia. The Exhibit Hall opens on Wednesday at 2pm and the Infinera booth, Booth #123, is in Section 1 of the Hall.

We believe that the Infinera ILS2, which will be released this summer, will set a new standard in optical system capacity, optical reach, and spectral density. It incorporates many new features and capabilities into the Infinera platform, which has seen tremendous success with the cable industry since its launch four years ago. The ILS2 employs a 25 Gigahertz (GHz) grid to pack 160 DWDM channels in the C-band, for total capacity of 1.6 Tb/s when used with today's Infinera DTN line cards, with capacity of 100 Gigabits/second (Gb/s) per line card. Infinera believes that the future introduction of next-generation photonic integrated circuits (PICs) will boost ILS2 system capacity to a future 8 Tb/s. Infinera has developed a new silicon-based PIC platform for passive PICs that supports the wavelength multiplexing on a 25 Ghz grid. The ILS2 also offers a new optical bypass feature, which enables Infinera systems to pass through a portion of traffic in sites where add/drop is not required, making Infinera networks more flexible and economic than before. The Digital Optical Networks architecture delivers the full benefits of a digital ROADM while optical express delivers the cost-effectiveness of an optical solution.

Bandwidth Virtualization

Infinera's Bandwidth Virtualization™ enables an Infinera network to deliver a wide variety of services, including Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet over an existing optical infrastructure without significant optical re-engineering. Infinera has been a leader in providing cost-effective Ethernet transport, and today Infinera believes that it is well positioned as a leader in the race to develop 100 GbE standards and products. On display at the Infinera Booth at this year's SCTE Cable-Tec Expo will be a live demonstration of 100 GbE services, marking a significant step forward in the development process. Developed in conjunction with Infinera partners Ixia and Avago Technologies, this demonstration implements the new Multi-Lane Distribution protocol architecture, a key enabling technology for economical 100 GbE solutions. In the demo, an Infinera 100 GbE Tributary Adapter Module (TAM) installed in an Infinera line card will transmit and receive 100 GbE services, with performance metrics viewable on the Ixia XM2 chassis. This prototype 100 GbE TAM, in a form-factor which fits inside today's Infinera line card, is ready to be productized as soon as 100 GbE demand has reached sufficient critical mass to sustain a commercial market.

"With Bandwidth Virtualization, integrated switching, and GMPLS-powered service intelligence, Infinera solutions are delivering value for cable providers nationwide, and with ILS2 we are adding many important new capabilities," said Infinera Director of Marketing for Cable Gaylord Hart. "We look forward to SCTE Cable-Tec Expo as an opportunity to update customers on our latest developments."

The Infinera booth will be staffed by experienced Infinera sales and marketing specialists who can provide descriptions of Infinera's 100 GbE and ILS2 demos, as well as in-depth descriptions of the advantages of Infinera's Digital Optical Networks architecture enabled by large-scale photonic integration. The Infinera DTN is a digital ROADM enabled by Infinera's PICs which integrate more than 60 optical devices on a pair of chips for an aggregate data rate of 100 Gb/s.
