NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - June 13, 2008) - King & Spalding, a leading international law
firm, announced today that its international trade practice is the winner
of a Chambers USA Award for Excellence 2008. The annual awards recognize
pre-eminence in practice areas and noteworthy achievements over the past
year, including outstanding work, impressive strategic growth or excellence
in client service. The award was presented June 12 at a ceremony in New
York City.
Chambers' extensive research process combines twelve months of unbiased and
professional research interviews carried out for the Chambers USA guide by
50 experienced researchers, with an evaluation of each lawyer's significant
legal achievements.
In addition to winning the international trade award, King & Spalding was a
finalist in the international arbitration and product liability categories.
The firm's international arbitration practice was also a finalist in 2007.
"We are extremely proud of the achievements of our international trade team
and the reputation it has developed," said Robert D. Hays, Jr., chairman of
King & Spalding. "We are also proud of our international arbitration and
product liability practices for being selected as finalists. The
recognition these three strong practice groups have received from Chambers
reaffirms our strategy of focusing on growing high-value practices where we
can compete nationally and internationally."
King & Spalding's international trade practice group advises clients on a
wide range of international trade matters, including trade remedies, World
Trade Organization (WTO) matters, export controls, sanctions, customs,
inward U.S. investment (Exon-Florio/CFIUS), and trade policy and
negotiations. In addition to the largest anti-dumping case ever brought
against China, the group was also the first in 15 years to successfully
file a countervailing duty petition in the United States against subsidized
imports from China.
"We congratulate the international trade team and everyone at the firm who
contributed to the outstanding record of success this practice has achieved
in the past year," said Stephen A. Jones, chair of King & Spalding's
international trade practice. "Our trade and WTO practice group is one of
the largest and most sophisticated in the world. With more than 40 lawyers
and trade professionals, including economists, foreign legal consultants
and accountants, we represent public- and private-sector clients in a wide
range of matters affecting the cross-border movement of goods, services and
investment."
