Mobile Wireless Infrastructure Market Grows 13% in Q1 2008

Mobile Softswich (MSS) and UMTS Core Post Impressive Gains

RENO, NV--(Marketwire - June 16, 2008) - (SRG) announces the availability of Synergy's Q1 2008 Mobile Wireless RAN & Core Market Share report, showing the Worldwide Mobile Wireless Infrastructure market, which climbed 13.1 percent year over year. The fastest growing market segment was Mobile Softswitch, which grew 43.8 percent year over year, followed by UMTS equipment, which increased 27.3 percent year over year.

The latest Synergy reports indicate that Mobile Wireless market share gains were difficult to come by in the quarter demonstrating the intensity of the competition in this nearly $15 billion market -- with the biggest exception being Huawei which experienced a significant increase in MW deployments in Q1 2008.

"Although much of the Mobile Wireless infrastructure market is dominated by incumbent manufacturers, Synergy is seeing Mobile segments which are undergoing substantial transitions, creating opportunities for new market entrants," says Aaron Vance, Senior Analyst at Synergy Research Group. "These opportunities are being driven by increased momentum for Release4 VoIP, WiMAX, and Mobile Multimedia deployments. Furthermore, Synergy believes this will only continue to grow as mobile applications further embrace all facets of communication, collaboration, and entertainment."

Additionally, it is important to mention the developing Femto Cell market. In 2008, Synergy believes growth will be stifled due to the lack of a standard, however once the 3GPP Femto Cell standard is ratified, Synergy is forecasting Femto Cell sales to accelerate to address pent up demand in the first half of 2009.
