Egenera Introduces New Processing Blade Modules Based on 6-Core Intel(R) Xeon(R) Processor E7400 Series

MARLBORO, MA--(Marketwire - September 15, 2008) - Egenera Inc. today announced it will expand its Egenera® Processing Blade™ (pBlade™) family with four new offerings based on the 6-Core Intel® Xeon® processor 7400 series launched today (see Intel press release). All of the new 6-Core Intel Xeon processor pBlades will be certified to support Microsoft® Windows®, RedHat® Enterprise Linux®, SUSE Linux Enterprise, Oracle® Enterprise Linux and Sun® Solaris™ 10 operating systems, providing customers with even more choice and flexibility than before.

The new Egenera pBlade modules will be populated with four Intel Xeon E7450 processors at a speed of 2.4GHz and compatible with all existing BladeFrame® EP, ES and EX systems. The new pBlades will include 32, 64, 96 and 128GB memory configurations in addition to being capable of supporting up to 192GB in the future. Built for enhanced virtualization capabilities, the Intel Xeon processor E7450 reduces costs and boosts system utilization. Joint customers will also benefit from achieving greater density with fewer cooling challenges due to the space saving and energy efficient build of the two technologies.

"The array of pBlade configurations we bring to market continues to grow as we work closely with Intel to ensure that we offer best in class performance, reliability and compatibility in order to keep pace with the critical business needs of our customers," said Pete Manca, executive vice president of Engineering and CTO of Egenera. "The latest Egenera pBlades, populated with 6-Core Intel® Xeon® E7450 processors, enables businesses to run even more highly scalable business applications and improve the power consumption and overall efficiency of their data center operations."

"The Intel® Xeon® processor 7400 series is the newest step in toward providing businesses the energy-efficient performance in their servers to meet the toughest challenges they can throw at them," said Jake Smith, Marketing Manager Intel Server Platforms Group Marketing. "Coupled with Egenera's powerful virtualization software and integrated systems, customers will experience extreme compute performance through optimized bandwidth and maximized performance density and performance per watt."

Processing Blade modules within the Egenera® integrated system are diskless and stateless, enabling automated allocation, repurposing and failover, since any processing blade can assume the identity of any other server. Egenera integrated systems combine these stateless blades with PAN Manager® by Egenera®, enabling customers to automatically align computing resources to application requirements and scale performance dynamically.

Availability

The Egenera pBlade family based on the Intel Model E7450 processors will be commercially available in Q4 of 2008.
