Unforgettable Flying Adventures -- Author Sylvia Lakeman Shares the Fascinating Story of Jack's Life, His Love of Planes and Memorable Moments of Soaring in the Skies

HALEYVILLE, Ala., Sept. 18, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Experience times of exhilaration, times of trepidation and times of incredible beauty -- unforgettable moments of flying in Jack: "Plane" Life in a Small Town by author Sylvia Lakeman. Join her as she takes you back in time through a nostalgic look at her husband's seventy years in a small Northwest Alabama town and his love of flying.

Jack: "Plane" Life in a Small Town begins in the thirties and spans the years to include a man's love of planes and his exciting experiences with many different planes, including an aerobatic bi-plane. As a little boy in the 1930s, when flying was still a novelty, Jack was introduced to flying by his father in a 40 horse Taylorcraft, a plane that ultimately met its end unceremoniously in a peach tree. That day, love bloomed in Jack's heart and flying daydreams began. Through the years flying becomes part of the family life and many planes will enter Jack's life from the Taylorcraft to the Luscombe Silvair, to the revered Navion, but none more important than a particular J-3 Cub and an unforgettable Tri-Pacer. His years with a stunning Skybolt aerobatic bi-plane give Jack his fifteen minutes of fame. The current family chariot is a beautiful Skyhawk that shares a hangar with an Oshkosh winning J-3 Cub.

Jack and wife Sylvia have truly lived "plane" life in a small town. Their home overlooks the grass strip that was the Haleyville Airport for many years and still provides pleasure as they never know who will drop in from the sky. Jack: "Plane" Life in a Small Town allows readers an exciting glimpse into the exhilarating world of planes and flying as well as a nostalgic look back over Jack's seventy years in a small Northwest Alabama town. All the airplanes Jack has known and loved (and he loved 'em all) have a story to tell and their stories are here, along with a warmhearted glimpse of small town life over a period of 75 years. The unforgettable characters woven into this fascinating tale will provide the reader with an entertaining trip back in time.

This book will be featured in the California Library Association Book Exhibit and New York Library Association Book Exhibit.
