Carlson Capital, L.P. Expands and Strengthens Senior Leadership Team

Ron Hulme of McKinsey & Company Joins as Chief Executive Officer

DALLAS, Oct. 20, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Carlson Capital, L.P., a multi-strategy alternative asset management firm, today announced that it has strengthened its senior management team with the addition of Ron Hulme, a 26-year veteran of McKinsey & Company, who will join the Firm as Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Hulme will play a key role in the overall management of the Firm, working closely with President and Chief Investment Officer Clint Carlson and Chief Operating Officer Roy Trice, with a focus on strategy, internal processes, and talent management. Ron will also lead an expanded energy practice encompassing investment across all asset classes in the energy sector.

"I have known and worked with Ron in different capacities over the years, and believe the Firm will benefit immensely from his strategic vision and leadership skills," Clint Carlson commented. "As the hedge fund landscape continues to evolve, we view this as a strategically important time to seize new opportunities while enhancing investment and management processes. Ron will contribute to these efforts with integrity, skill, and sound judgment. In addition, his broad and deep experience in the global energy industry provides the ideal foundation for expanding our presence in the energy sector, where we see substantial opportunity in the coming years."

Commenting on his decision to join Carlson, Ron Hulme added, "Carlson Capital is a focused and disciplined investment firm that always puts its investors first -- characteristics I have admired over the years. There is a collective sense that unique opportunities lie ahead, which creates a need to expand and strengthen the Firm's management team. I am thrilled to join Carlson, believe strongly in the future potential of the Firm proven by its prior record of success, and look forward to getting to work."

During his 26-year career at McKinsey, Ron Hulme played an active and formative role in the Firm's management and governance. He led or co-led several of McKinsey's practice groups including the Global Strategy Practice, the Global Corporate Finance Practice, the Global Risk Practice, the Americas Oil and Gas Practice, and the Americas Chemical Practice. He served as a member of the Shareholders Council (McKinsey's Board of Directors) and as the Chairman of one of its four policy committees. He also served as a member of McKinsey's Office of the Managing Director, where he had oversight responsibility for the Firm's global knowledge efforts and six functional practices (Strategy, Organization, Operations, Marketing, Corporate Finance, and Information Technology), and as Chairman of the Firm Strategy Initiative, a 60 partner task force chartered in the late 1990s to redefine McKinsey's own global strategy.

Mr. Hulme earned a BBA degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where he graduated first in his class, and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar. He is an active board member of several non-profit organizations including Texas Children's Hospital, University of Texas McCombs School of Business, Alley Theatre and the Institute for Sustainable Peace.
