Advanced Manufacturing Industry Contributes to Success of Canon Trade Shows

Organiser Sees Attendance Gains in Europe and Asia as Evidence of Worldwide Sector Strength

MAIDSTONE, UK--(Marketwire - October 21, 2008) - Canon Communications is reporting an unprecedented level of success in increased visitor numbers to its series of advanced manufacturing exhibitions organised this year throughout Europe and the Far East. "Audience figures at our events this year have bucked the falling attendance trend that has affected some business-to-business trade shows," said Mark Temple-Smith, Canon's Event Director for Europe and Asia. "We are planning to launch and acquire new events in France, Germany and Japan during 2009 -- all in the advanced manufacturing sector."

Mr. Temple-Smith notes that Canon has recorded:

-- A 30% increase in visitors to its Advanced Manufacturing UK event --
incorporating MEDTEC UK, Mtec, Machine Building & Automation, Vision
Technology Exhibition, Practical Vacuum and 3C -- held in February 2008 at
    the Birmingham NEC

-- A 9% increase in visitors to its MEDTEC Ireland show for medical
device manufacturers -- held in September each year in Galway

-- A 10% increase in visitors to the equivalent show -- MEDTEC China --
held in September each year in Shanghai

-- A 6% increase in visitors to the flagship MEDTEC event -- MEDTEC
Europe -- held in March each year in Stuttgart, Germany

"The success of our events is testimony to both market conditions and their promotional models," said Temple-Smith. "They focus upon industries that are less exposed to economic cycles and less at risk to offshore manufacturing, and we work extremely hard to meet the expectations of their visitors who attend to keep fully up to date with strategies, technologies and trends that will help make them more efficient and effective."

"Canon is the largest B-to-B media company devoted to the advancing manufacturing sector worldwide," said Kevin O'Keefe, Senior Vice President of Canon's Events Division. "The level of activity we're seeing in Europe and Asia parallels what we have seen in our North American shows, reflecting the inherent strength of advanced manufacturing as an economic driver."
