Advanced Manufacturing Industry Contributes to Success of Canon Trade Shows

Producer Sees Attendance Gains as Evidence of Worldwide Sector Strength

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - November 13, 2008) - Canon Communications is reporting an unprecedented level of success, as measured by increased attendance, at its series of advanced manufacturing exhibitions organized this year throughout the world. "Attendance at our events this year has run counter to the declining trend that has affected some business-to-business trade shows," said Kevin O'Keefe, Senior Vice President of Canon's Events Division. "This is among the reasons that we have acquired and are launching new events in France, Germany and Japan during 2009 -- all in the advanced manufacturing sector." He notes that Canon has recorded:

-- A 5% increase in attendance to its full-facility, co-located event --
held in February 2008 at the Anaheim Convention Center in California --
which includes Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) West, WestPack,
Pacific Design & Manufacturing (PDM), Electronics West, PLASTEC West,
Automation Technology Expo (ATX) West, and a Green Manufacturing Expo.

-- A 2% increase in attendance to its co-located event -- held in June
2008 at the Javits Convention Center in New York -- which includes MD&M
East, EastPack, Atlantic Design & Manufacturing (ADM), PLASTEC East,
Automation Technology Expo (ATX) East, and a Green Manufacturing Expo.

-- A 3% increase in attendance to its co-located MD&M Minneapolis and
MidPak event held last month at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

-- A 30% increase in attendance to its Advanced Manufacturing UK event --
incorporating MEDTEC UK, Mtec, Machine Building & Automation, Vision
Technology Exhibition, Practical Vacuum and 3C -- held in February 2008 at
    the Birmingham NEC.

-- An 8% increase in attendance to its 2008 edition of the BIOMEDevice
exposition, held September 10-11 in San Jose, California.

-- A 6% increase in attendance to the flagship MEDTEC event -- MEDTEC
Europe -- held in March each year in Stuttgart, Germany.

-- A 10% increase in attendance to the equivalent show -- MEDTEC China --
held in September each year in Shanghai.

The 2007 editions of Canon's co-located events in California and New York were recently honored by Trade Show Executive magazine as two of the 100 largest shows in the U.S. that, according to the publication, "have set the Gold Standard for the exposition industry."

"The success of our events is testimony to both market conditions and their promotional models," said Dan Cutrone, Marketing Director in Canon's Events Division. "They focus upon industries that are less exposed to economic downturns and they meet the expectations of attendees who need to keep fully up-to-date with strategies, technologies and trends that will help make them more efficient and effective."

"Canon is the largest B-to-B media company devoted to the advancing manufacturing sector worldwide," adds O'Keefe. "The level of activity we're seeing in North America parallels what we have seen in our European and Asian shows, reflecting the inherent strength of advanced manufacturing as an economic driver."
