Infinera to Exhibit at SuperComputing 2008
Live 100 Gigabit Ethernet Demo With Pre-Production 100 GbE Module
| Source: Infinera
SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - November 13, 2008) - Infinera (NASDAQ : INFN ) will be hosting
visitors at its booth at SuperComputing08, demonstrating 100 Gigabit
Ethernet (GbE) service from a pre-production 100 GbE module and displaying
the features and capabilities of the Infinera ILS2 line system.
SuperComputing08 (SC08) begins on November 15th and runs through the 21st
at the Austin Convention Center, Austin, Texas. Infinera will be at Booth
#1253.
Infinera's live demonstration will send a 100 GbE signal from an Infinera
DTN optical system at the Infinera booth to an Infinera DTN in the show's
SCinet Network Operations Center on the show floor. The 100 GbE signal will
then be looped and transported back to the Infinera booth. The Ixia 100 GbE
Development Accelerator System will generate the 100 GbE signal and provide
real-time monitoring, verifying transmission and reception of the signal.
Infinera has played a leading role in the move to 100 GbE. Its first
demonstration of live 100 GbE traffic took place two years ago at SC06.
Infinera's Bandwidth Virtualization™ architecture enables a wide range
of services, from 1 Gb/s to 100 Gb/s, to be transported over a single
optical infrastructure.
"100 Gigabit Ethernet services will be an important next step for telecom
networks and the Internet, to keep pace with fast-growing bandwidth
demands," said Infinera Chief Technology Officer Drew Perkins. "Infinera's
digital architecture will enable Infinera to deliver 100 GbE services
cost-effectively on today's networks."
"It's clear that the growth in network bandwidth demand is fueling the need
for higher speed Ethernet links -- to 40 and 100 Gigabits," said Atul
Bhatnagar, Ixia's president and CEO. "By bringing our 100 GbE Development
Accelerator System to market early in the development and testing process,
we hope to fuel acceleration of this critical technology."
Working with the research and education (R&E) community is a high priority
for Infinera. The R&E community pioneers new and demanding network and
Internet applications and explores new architectures for next-generation
networks and working with this community has helped Infinera develop its
unique digital architecture based on photonic integration. The Infinera
digital architecture delivers capacity, flexibility, and scalability,
enabled by Infinera's unique large-scale photonic integrated circuits which
put 100 Gb/s of optical capacity on a pair of chips. Every Infinera line
card offers 100 Gb/s of capacity, which enables today's R&E networks to
accommodate growing bandwidth demands with speed and flexibility. With the
introduction of Infinera's ILS2 line system earlier this year, Infinera
systems offer enhanced features including total capacity on a fiber of 1.6
Terabits/second (Tb/s) today, scalable to 8 Tb/s in the future, 160 DWDM
wavelengths in the C-band, and ultra-long optical reach.
At SC08, Infinera representatives will be on hand at the Infinera booth to
explain the features and benefits of Infinera's ILS2 line system and the
technology behind Infinera's large-scale photonic integrated circuits.
