Vyatta 2502 Open Network Appliance Smashes Cisco ISR

Vyatta Delivers Dual-Core Performance With Eight Times the Memory of Cisco

BELMONT, CA--(Marketwire - December 9, 2008) - Vyatta, the leader in open networking, today announced the Vyatta 2502 networking appliance with advanced routing and security features. The Vyatta 2502 takes advantage of hardware technology advances to deliver 2.4 GHz dual-core forwarding performance and large memory size for a fraction of the price of the Cisco ISR series. With more than 2GB of RAM, the Vyatta 2502 delivers eight times the standard memory offering of the Cisco 2800 and 3800 series ISR family. The Vyatta 2502 offers dual, redundant 250GB hard disk drives in a RAID-1 configuration, which deliver large amounts of reliable storage for advanced features such as web caching, intrusion prevention, and anti-virus scanning.

Vyatta has also upgraded its 2501 model appliance, adding a 250GB hard drive and 1GB of RAM without any increase in price. Both Vyatta appliance models are available at a fraction of the cost of proprietary routing and security devices and include a full complement of features, many of which cost thousands of dollars extra with other solutions: integrated BGP, OSPF, and RIP routing; stateful firewall; VPN; intrusion prevention; antivirus; quality of service (QoS); WAN load balancing; WAN interface capabilities from ADSL to T3; and LAN interface capabilities up to 10 Gbps. "If you're in the market for a mid-range enterprise networking solution, you can't beat the price/performance of the Vyatta 2500 appliances. It's like getting a Cisco 3800 for less than a Cisco 2800, with more features and functions to boot," said Kelly Herrell, CEO of Vyatta. "As the recession wreaks havoc on IT budgets during this holiday season, Vyatta is giving a gift to over-extended network managers everywhere -- all the network power and performance they need for an extraordinarily low price. Given the current economic conditions, companies can't afford NOT to consider Vyatta for their networks."

Availability and Pricing

The Vyatta 2502 open network appliance is available now starting at just $2,747. The Vyatta 2501 appliance has a starting price of $2,347. To purchase a Vyatta appliance, go to http://www2.vyatta.com/store.
