StockerYale, Inc. Expands LED Systems Offering With Introduction of Cobra Slim

Company Leverages Core LED Systems Competencies to Address High-Growth Markets

SALEM, N.H., Dec. 11, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- StockerYale, Inc. (Nasdaq:STKR), a leading designer and manufacturer of structured light lasers, LED modules and specialty optical fibers for industrial OEMs, medical and defense markets, today introduced the latest addition to its COBRA Linescan Illuminators product family, the COBRA Slim. Building on the success of the original COBRA, the first LED product for linescan applications, the COBRA Slim includes optical, thermal, electronic and mechanical improvements in an innovative modular concept to address linescan and web inspection from 100mm up to several meters.

"The introduction of the COBRA Slim leverages our superior LED systems technology, combined with our unique chip-on-board technology and custom OEM solutions, to address needs of high-growth applications with a uniquely bright and efficient LED illuminator," stated Mark W. Blodgett, Chairman and CEO of StockerYale, Inc. "With COBRA Slim, we are broadening our market opportunity to include the inspection of solar wafers and cells, flat panel displays and large format web applications, among others, thereby positioning us for additional revenue opportunities."

COBRA Slim

StockerYale's COBRA was the first LED product that could compete with Halogen based fiber optic line illumination for linescan applications. The new COBRA Slim builds on this success and can now focus on the complete range of linescan illumination requirements including fluorescents and metal halide. StockerYale's unique chip-on-board (COB) approach to LED module fabrication coupled with our engineering developments result in greater controllability and increased output power by up to a factor of 10 over the existing COBRA.

The adaptive mechanical design of the COBRA Slim allows for more flexible solutions for customers with interchangeable COB LED boards for high power applications and Surface Mount Technology (SMT) LED boards for low power needs. This new product has now displaced fluorescents, halogen and metal halide as a single source LED illuminator which offers both broad angles of light radiation or homogeneous light effects and high luminous densities depending on the desired effects for CCD or TDI camera technology.
