ROK TV Wins Juniper 'Future Mobile' Award

Juniper Research Predicts Mobile TV User Base Reaching 330 Million by 2013

LONDON, Feb. 9, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ROK Entertainment Group, the mobile entertainment, applications and technologies company, today announced it has won a 'Future Mobile' award from leading mobile and telecommunications analyst group, Juniper Research.

In their report on the global mobile TV market, released today, Juniper states the worldwide user base for mobile TV services is likely to exceed 330 million by the end of 2013, with growth in uptake of mobile TV being driven by both the increasing deployment of handsets equipped with chipsets capable of receiving free-to-air analogue and digital terrestrial TV signals and also through services offering both live and on-demand content streamed over existing mobile networks -- the sector of the growing mobile TV market which ROK is addressing.

ROK TV won the award for its successful deployment of its streamed mobile TV service across a number of key markets including India, Mexico, Thailand, Pakistan, South Africa and Turkey.

"We are delighted that Juniper Research has awarded ROK in this way," said Jonathan Kendrick, Chairman and CEO of ROK Entertainment Group, "because ROK TV is all about delivering the highest quality TV to the widest range of mobile phones, streamed live and on-demand over existing networks, on mass-market 2.5G, 3G and Wi-Fi."

Juniper Research assesses the current and future status of mobile TV based on interviews, case studies and analysis from representatives of some of the leading organisations in the growing mobile user-generated content industry. The report, released today, includes historical, current and forecast market sizing through to 2013, including country, regional and global data on service adoption levels by broadcast standard, user numbers (split by free to air and paid-for services), service pricing, user spend, end-user revenues and advertising expenditure.

"With ROK TV firmly positioned in the streamed mobile TV space, we are also pleased to note Juniper's opinion that the global economic downturn is likely to lead to the postponement or even cancellation of the rollout of dedicated mobile broadcast TV services in several market while streamed TV bouquets will continue to provide the bulk of mobile TV revenues for the foreseeable future," added Kendrick.
