Siemens Deploys Cast Iron Integration Solution Enterprise Wide

Cast Iron Enables Enterprise IT at Major Manufacturer to Focus on Strategy, Reduce Costs, Improve Productivity, and Streamline Business Processes

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwire - February 17, 2009) - Cast Iron Systems, The #1 SaaS integration Company™, today announced that Siemens Energy, Inc., the world's leading supplier of a complete spectrum of products, services and solutions for the generation, transmission and distribution of power and for the extraction, conversion and transport of oil and gas, has expanded its use of the Cast Iron Integration Solution to all divisions, building on its successful use in Siemens' Power Transmission division. The company is enjoying major savings in project development time and cost, as well as in ongoing support costs.

"Our Power Transmission division was the first to experience the value of the Cast Iron Integration Solution," said Tanner Shamrock, IT Project Manager at Siemens Energy. "Now that we've adopted Cast Iron at the enterprise level, its simplicity and speed give us the time and resources to focus on strategic IT initiatives and deliver increased value to all of our divisions."

The performance degradation of an aging, proprietary, and yet mission-critical integration solution prompted Siemens IT group to turn to Cast Iron. The solution connected the company's SAP ERP system with its Salesforce CRM solution to share financial information and reports of plant outages. Based on an outdated technology, the solution was difficult and expensive to maintain and upgrade. When IT attempted an upgrade, the solution malfunctioned.

Outages at power plants are sales opportunities for Siemens and if the sales people don't know about them, those opportunities are lost. Over time, the sales and marketing teams lost confidence in the existing system, and management didn't have good insight into the company's business information. IT had to act, but estimated that rewriting the entire solution using the same technology would cost significantly more, and maintaining the application as it was would overrun the support budget.

Therefore, based on the Power Transmission division's success, the IT team selected the Cast Iron integration solution to replace the aging internal integration solution. It took just three weeks from start to finish to deploy a complete and robust solution into production using the Cast Iron product, while it would have taken five times that long by writing custom code. Siemens saved 80 percent of the project development cost and dramatically reduced support costs in the first year alone.

The Cast Iron Integration Solution was particularly attractive because it simplified and accelerated the application integration project via a "configuration, not coding" approach. In contrast to older and more expensive ETL batch-based data integration solutions, it also provided real-time integration between the company's Cloud and on premise applications. Companies using the Cast Iron Integration Solution choose from two options to integrate such applications: the Integration-as-a-Service (IaaS) Cast Iron Cloud, or the on premise Cast Iron Integration Appliance. The On premise appliance comes in two flavors depending on the customer's needs -- a physical appliance or a virtual appliance that can run on existing hardware. All the Cast Iron product offerings operate identically, provide exactly the same functionality, and have access to a library of pre-built integrations that solve a wide variety of application integration projects out-of-the-box.

"The experience Siemens had with our solution is typical of the benefits all our customers are receiving from Cast Iron's fast and flexible approach to SaaS and enterprise integration," said Ken Comée, CEO of Cast Iron Systems. "Cast Iron provides real business value for our customers and, unlike our many competitors, we deliver results, not hype."
