Jitterbit Simplifies Data Integration for Balfour Beatty Construction

Construction Enterprise Leverages Open Source Solution for Increased ROI

OAKLAND, CA--(Marketwire - February 17, 2009) - Jitterbit, the leading provider of open source integration software, today announced a successful Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) integration for Balfour Beatty Construction.

"With the economic downturn, most companies are looking to tighten their belts when it comes to budgets. A smaller budget, however, does not mean challenges can be ignored or the expectations for results are lowered. In addressing our integration challenges, Jitterbit's solution provided the same robust architecture as its competitors, at a much lower total cost of ownership," said Kasey Bevans, CIO at Balfour Beatty Construction.

Balfour Beatty Construction works across the full-cycle of commercial construction, from initial concept through construction and life cycle analysis, delivering complex projects on time and on budget. When undergoing implementation of its new ERP system, Balfour Beatty Construction found that it needed an integration solution to forge a reliable link between new and existing business systems. Rewriting its original hand-coded custom integration solution to meet new needs was a daunting task and one that would require a significant investment of time and money. Instead, Balfour Beatty Construction looked to open source for a powerful yet cost-effective solution to replace the old system and create efficient bridges between its applications.

"We were able to meet our business integration goals and give our technical team an integration suite that is easy to use and maintain. Accounts, budgets and subcontracts automatically flow to and from our financial system and are verified for accuracy while in transit. In addition to the ERP integration, our IT team was able to use Jitterbit out-of-the-box with limited training to automate the process of banking transactions," said Bevans.

Jitterbit allowed Balfour Beatty Construction to integrate JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and AutoDesk Constructware. The integration includes notifications, data validation and a custom mechanism to submit budgets from a designated file. Balfour Beatty Construction also took advantage of Jitterbit's professional integration consulting services, which provided key members of Balfour Beatty Construction's business and IT teams hands-on design support and advice for applying the existing Jitterbit solution to future integration challenges.

"Many companies are facing the same challenge -- a smaller IT budget does not mean your integration needs go away or that you can lower your expectations for results," said Sharam Sasson, CEO of Jitterbit. "By leveraging the power of open source, Jitterbit offers a robust, enterprise-class integration solution to organizations of all sizes and budgets."

Bevans concludes, "Business system integration is critical to the success of our company and Jitterbit has delivered for us. The strength of its product was complemented by the knowledge of its support team. Jitterbit provided an excellent integration solution for our enterprise."
