PLEASANTON, CA--(Marketwire - April 1, 2009) - Workday, Inc., the leader in
enterprise-class SaaS-based Human Resources (HR), Payroll and Financial
solutions, has delivered a broad range of new capabilities in Workday
update 7, all built to support the needs of complex, global enterprises
deploying a new HR system-of-record. As always, Workday handles upgrades
for customers and all customers have made the transition to update 7.
What's New
Workday delivered new capabilities to support global
enterprises:
-- Management of worker personal data based on regulatory requirements for
more than 50 countries and regions.
-- New employee and manager self-service support for Brazilian Portuguese
and simplified Chinese, along with employee self-service support for German
and Italian. Workday now offers support for eight languages overall.
-- Advanced configurable security that gives HR administrators
extraordinary granularity in designating role-based access to information
and functionality for the global workforce, without IT intervention.
Workday delivered an enhanced public API:
-- Doubled the number of operations supported in the public API.
-- Enhanced the Business Process API to completely or partially automate
key business processes such as hire, compensation change and initiate
performance review.
-- Improved performance for export of large volumes of data out of Workday.
Workday significantly expanded workflow and business process automation capabilities:
-- Management of high-volume events, enabling HR to update and manage large
worker populations.
-- Inbox delegation, allowing managers to delegate tasks such as approvals
to subordinates or administrators.
-- Pay for Business Performance, extending Workday's recently announced Pay for Performance solution to
include business results in compensation calculations.
-- Business process approvals via Workday's new iPhone
client.
Workday has extended its built-in
Business Intelligence capabilities:
-- Contextual reporting allows users to create custom reports directly from
data they view on any Workday page.
-- Graphical drill-down, which allows users to click on any section of a
chart to view detailed information behind the summary information. This
expands on Workday's existing drill-down on numbers capability that
provides the same capabilities within tabular reports.
-- Background processing and report scheduling.

organizations to Fortune 500 global enterprises. More than 40 customers

-- Workday consistently delivers enterprise-class capabilities via SaaS at
a fraction of the cost of buying, implementing, maintaining and evolving
on-premise solutions.

on-premise approaches.
Comments on the News
"Workday continues to deliver the important functional and architectural
capabilities required by complex, global organizations that place process
and business rule agility central to their business strategy," said Naomi
Bloom, managing partner at Bloom & Wallace. "Not only does the
multi-tenant SaaS model provide faster innovation at a lower initial and
ongoing cost, but Workday has also leveraged a flexible object model and
related enabling tools to deliver software that is capable of handling the
dramatic changes in regulatory requirements for HRM and Payroll that I
expect we'll see over the next few years. Any company looking
strategically at their core HRMS options should be looking at Workday."
"Workday update 7 provides the functionality that customers need to go into
production worldwide, making this another important milestone in our
development efforts," said Aneel Bhusri, co-founder and president of
Workday. "The pace of innovation we have achieved via Workday's
development platform and SaaS model means we've been able to deliver major
innovations to our customers, including Workday Payroll, our enhanced API
and even mobile solutions like Workday for the iPhone much more quickly
than traditional, on-premise systems. Workday will deliver three major
updates to our solutions in 2009, with each one delivering major new
capabilities to our customers. That pace of innovation, combined with the
lower costs associated with our SaaS model, deliver amazing value to
Workday customers."
