SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - April 15, 2009) - Leading UHF Gen 2 radio frequency
identification (RFID) technology provider Impinj, Inc. today announced the
launch of packaged Monza™ 3 chips, which exhibit exceptional durability
and address harsh operating environments requiring rugged tags. Engineered
to sustain frequent thermal cycling and physical stress, the Monza packaged
chips establish new benchmarks for reliability, performance, readability
and high-speed field rewriteability while enabling numerous industrial
applications that had proven too demanding for RFID technology. Because
packaged chips allow for highly reliable, solder antenna connections,
customers can expect excellent long-term performance in wide ranging asset
tagging applications.
Packaged Monza 3 chips perfectly suit the electronics industry, where
manufacturers leverage RFID to monitor work-in-process, inventory, board
revision history and counterfeiting as well as to improve recalls and
customer service. The new Monza 3 offering is the smallest and lowest
profile packaged chip in its class, and manufacturers can integrate the
parts onto printed circuit boards (PCBs) using industry-standard surface
mount technology (SMT). Monza 3's extremely small package size enables
placement on even the most space-constrained PCBs.
RFID solution provider Mighty Card selected the packaged Monza 3 chip to
drive its most critical asset tagging application. "We partnered with
Impinj for one of our most important projects, the pallet rental
application for Japan Pallet Rental Corporation," said Koji Kabumoto,
president of Mighty Card, RFID solution provider in Japan. "Impinj's tag
chip performance and innovative antenna design exceeded our expectations.
We put the tags through extraordinarily rigorous testing -- beyond our
actual needs -- and they survived. From delivery to performance, Impinj was
excellent."
Key Features of Packaged Monza 3 Chips:
-- High-sensitivity coupled with superior interference rejection, which
creates exceptional tag performance -- even when buried deep within a
pallet of RF-absorbing material
-- Industrial temperature range, which yields reliable performance under
harsh conditions
-- Rugged package, which protects chips from the environment and allows
robust attachment of tag antennas
"The key advantages of our packaged Monza 3 chips go beyond features listed
on a data sheet," said Kerry Krause, vice president of marketing at Impinj.
"These parts allow our customers to address new, challenging end-user
applications. Monza 3 packaged chips create many opportunities for UHF RFID
in the industrial marketplace."
Packaged Monza 3 parts are available now in production quantities.
