El Paso's Southwest Career Institute Changes Name to Southwest Career College

EL PASO, Texas, April 16, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Southwest Career Institute, a leader in quality career and technical education, is changing its name on April 17 to Southwest Career College, www.southwestcareercollege.com. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board recently recognized the expanding El Paso-based institution as a college, now granting the school the ability to award associate degrees.

The institution's name change reflects the broader range of course offerings for SWCC students. Started as an institution to provide quality education to individuals who had not received their high school diploma and lacked strong English skills, SWCC has expanded to offer quality technical and career training and works with business partners to provide an extensive and complete student curriculum.

"We are very excited about the recent growth experienced at Southwest Career College," says Ben Arriola, Director for SWCC. "Our name change reflects that positive growth and the multitude of educational opportunities now offered to our prospective students."

Opened in June 1999, Southwest Career College (SWCC) provides high quality career and technical education in a number of fields. SWCC students can study for a career as a medical assistant, medical records, diesel technician, administrative assistant, sonography technician or an MRI specialist. With a low student-to-teacher ratio and two convenient campuses in the El Paso area, SWCC's mission is to provide exceptional career and technical training through a commitment to educational excellence, emerging technologies and a positive learning environment.

SWCC's campuses include state-of-the-art classrooms and computer labs, medical laboratories, as well as facilities where students can relax and study before and after classes. The main El Paso campus, located at 1414 Geronimo Drive, offers course instruction for Administrative Assistant, Medical Records, MRI and Sonography and Medical Assistant careers. Healthcare students can also gain hands on experience while studying phlebotomy, EKG machines, and blood analysis.

SWCC also has a satellite campus located at 5700 Cleveland Avenue in El Paso. At this campus, the Diesel Technician program is taught, consisting of multiple bays that allow students to work directly on engines and vehicles.
