BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - April 24, 2009) - Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo will be
the first NBA player to be supported by energy drink leader Red Bull. It's
an exciting new page in the company's playbook. Red Bull has long been a
loyal supporter of top-tier, professional athletes in national and
international disciplines, such as NASCAR, Formula One, NFL, and Major
League Soccer, as well as action and adventure sports. But with Red Bull's
popularity soaring higher than ever among fans and players in the major
national leagues, the time is right to welcome a new kind of player to the
Red Bull world.
Point Guard Rajon Rondo, 23, has become an unconventional factor in the
Celtics success. He was welcomed into the Red Bull world by being driven to
his first playoff game against the Chicago Bulls in the #82 Red Bull
NASCAR. The car ripped through the streets of Boston right to the player's
entrance door at the TD Banknorth Garden.
Red Bull has found a great partner in Rajon Rondo, who is an emerging
superstar and dynamic on the court and off. "I've gotten a glimpse into the
Red Bull world and from what I can see, I'm really glad about the
partnership. They are very creative and don't do things in a traditional
way. I look forward to putting these new wings to use," says Rondo.
The former SEC All-Freshman Team member and 2005 USA Men's Under-21 FIFA
World Champion, Rondo attended the University of Kentucky for two years
before declaring himself for the 2006 NBA Draft. Since being drafted 21st
overall by the Phoenix Suns, he was later traded to the Boston Celtics,
where he played a key role in leading the team to the 2008 National
Championships. He ranks 5th in the NBA in regular season steals (129) and
his signature breakaway speed and amazing court vision has made Rondo one
of the most entertaining and talented young players in the league. An
equally emerging personality off the court, Rondo spends his off-season
cruising local roller rinks practicing his rhythmic roller skating and
visits to CAMP RONDO, a fully-inclusive basketball development experience
for players of all ages that Rondo founded.
Rondo joins a roster of champions such as Olympic Beach Volleyball gold
medalists Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser, NFL Running Back Reggie Bush,
Chicago Bears' Devin Hester, Motocross Champion James Stewart, X Games
Champion Shaun White, and World Record holder Robbie Maddison to name just
a few, and will work hard to add the "Larry O'Brien NBA Championship
Trophy" to the list of accomplishments reached to date by Red Bull athletes
around the world.
