WaveLight AG: Formal request by Alcon, Inc. relative to the institution of
a Squeeze-Out procedure

Erlangen, May 11, 2009. WaveLight AG, listed on the Prime Standard of the
Deutsche Börse AG (Company address: Am Wolfsmantel 5, 91058 Erlangen; ISIN:
DE0005125603) announces that the Alcon, Inc. with its registered seat in
Hünenberg, Switzerland, has submitted a formal written request to the board
of directors of WaveLight AG pursuant to Sec. 327a para 1 sentence 1 AktG
dated May 8, 2009 requesting that the annual general meeting of WaveLight
AG shall resolve on the transfer of all shares in WaveLight AG held by the
outstanding shareholders to Alcon, Inc. in its capacity as principal
shareholder against an appropriate cash compensation (so called
'Squeeze-Out').

According to a custody confirmation letter dated May 8, 2009 and submitted
to the board of directors of WaveLight AG Alcon, Inc. owns approximately
95,04 % of the share capital of WaveLight AG and, consequently, has
obtained the status of a principal shareholder within the meaning of Sec.
327a para. 1 Sentence 1 AktG.

The above referred resolution shall be adopted in the annual general
meeting for the short fiscal year 2008, which is scheduled for August 28,
2009.
