King & Spalding Expands Its International Arbitration Practice
NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - June 9, 2009) - King & Spalding, a leading international law
firm, announced today the continuing expansion of its international
arbitration practice with the arrival of Caline Mouawad as a counsel in its
New York office. Mouawad's arrival brings to 14 the number of lawyers and
consultants who have joined King & Spalding's international arbitration
practice in the past 24 months. Last month the firm submitted an
application to the Paris Bar Council in order to open an office in Paris, a
key European venue for international arbitration matters.
"Caline is a perfect fit for the continued growth of our international
arbitration practice in New York, as well as in Europe and the Middle East.
We are delighted that she has joined us," said Edward G. Kehoe, co-head of
the King & Spalding's international arbitration practice.
Mouawad joins King & Spalding from Salans, where she was a counsel and
practiced in two of the firm's legal areas: arbitration, and litigation and
alternate dispute resolution. She has considerable experience in disputes
arising in Europe. Mouawad is fluent in English and French and speaks
Arabic.
Mouawad has handled arbitrations involving claims and disputes relating to
public and private international law issues, bilateral investment treaties,
breach of contract, financial transactions and privatization agreements.
She has been involved in complex arbitrations in a variety of sectors
including insurance, telecommunications, oil and gas, energy and patent
licensing. She has also worked under the arbitration rules of several
institutions, including the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC),
International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), London
Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), International Commercial
Arbitration Court (ICAC) and American Arbitration Association (AAA), as
well as in ad hoc cases under the United Nations Commission on
International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) rules.
Mouawad earned a J.D. degree from Harvard Law School and received a B.A.
degree, summa cum laude, from Rice University. She is a dual-qualified
lawyer in New York and Paris.
"Caline's arbitration and disputes experience, coupled with the firm's
substantial litigation capabilities, further enhances our ability to handle
the most challenging and complex arbitration matters in Europe, or anywhere
in the world," said Eric Schwartz, a senior partner in King & Spalding's
international arbitration practice.
Schwartz, one of the top international arbitration lawyers in the world,
joined King & Spalding in March 2009, along with his colleague, partner
James Castello, a prominent international arbitration practitioner.
Schwartz has practiced law in Paris for 30 years.
King & Spalding is ranked among the leading international arbitration
practices in the world. According to Chambers USA 2008, the firm "is
currently one of the arbitration arena's biggest success stories," an
accolade that was also echoed in the publication's 2007 edition, which
described the firm as having "won plaudits from clients for its service
orientation and value for money." ACQ Finance magazine, in March 2009,
named King & Spalding the commercial arbitration law firm of the year in
its inaugural Country Law Awards. The firm is nominated for a Chambers USA
Award for Excellence 2009 in international arbitration and was a finalist
in 2008. It also features among the world's leading international
arbitration practices in Chambers Global 2009.
