Ocarina Networks' Award Winning Content-Aware Compression and Dedupe Solution for Online Storage to Be Resold by HP
The Ocarina ECOsystem for HP Scalable NAS Reduces Storage Costs by Dramatically Improving Storage Utilization
| Source: Ocarina
SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - August 10, 2009) - Ocarina
Networks today announced a reseller agreement with HP that
allows customers to purchase Ocarina's award winning content-aware
compression and dedupe solution directly from HP and from HP channel
partners for fulfillment by Ocarina.
The Ocarina ECOsystem for HP seamlessly integrates with the HP Scalable
Network Attached Storage (NAS) product family, including the HP
StorageWorks 9100 Extreme Data Storage System (ExDS9100). The combined
solution allows customers to store as much as 10 times more data on HP
Scalable NAS platforms, with little to no impact on file serving
performance. Independent analyst testing shows that Ocarina's ECOsystem
provides 3 to 5 times better data reduction than NetApp Dedupe, giving HP's
scalable NAS a significant advantage in storage efficiency.
"We are extremely excited to have HP as a strategic reseller of the Ocarina
ECOsystem. The combined HP-Ocarina solution provides industry leading data
reduction and cost effective capacity optimized storage for enterprises
worldwide," said Dave Withers, VP of Business Development of Ocarina
Networks.
"Customers need highly scalable storage solutions that efficiently and
cost-effectively manage the growing amount of information enterprises are
producing on a daily basis," said Lee Johns, Director, Unified Storage, HP
StorageWorks. "With this combined solution from HP and Ocarina, customers
can lower costs and save time by more efficiently utilizing storage
resources." The Ocarina ECOsystem software for HP runs directly on each
server node, or performance block, in an HP Scalable NAS cluster. The
combined solution also allows customers to seamlessly move data from
expensive tier 1 storage to much more cost-efficient tier 2 storage
platforms such as HP's ExDS9100, and compress and dedupe the data as it is
being stored on tier 2.
Unlike competing solutions that force customers to compress or dedupe
everything on an entire volume, the combined solution from Ocarina and HP
allows customers to select files for optimization via policies based on
common attributes such as file type, date, owner, or location.
Availability
The Ocarina ECOsystem for HP Scalable NAS is available
immediately from HP.
