ELEKTA WINS MULTIPLE ORDER OF ELEKTA SYSTEMS FROM ICESP IN BRASIL, CREATES
CENTER FOR TRAINING AND PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

Press Release
Stockholm, Sweden, August 14, 2009

Elekta has received a multiple order of six Radiation Therapy systems from the
Cancer Institute of the State of São Paulo. The order encompasses two Elekta
Synergy® Platform, three Elekta Synergy® and one Elekta Axesse™. Elekta will
make the institute its training and product development center in Latin America.

The Cancer Institute of the State of São Paulo, ICESP, is a social organization
of Health, created by the State Government in partnership with the Foundation
School of Medicine to be the largest hospital specializing in the treatment of
cancer in Latin America.

By winning this public tender, Elekta will make the institute its training and
product development center in Latin America with the entire product portfolio
available including hardware, software, planning system, management system and
linear accelerators. The institute will be equipped with two Elekta Synergy®
Platform, three Elekta Synergy®, one Elekta Axesse™, 30 MOSAIQ® stations and 19
CMS treatment planning systems.

“This is the most important step taken by Elekta in Latin America”, says Antonio
Ponce, Vice President, Elekta Latin America. “We are very pleased that the
institute will become the training and development center of Latin America for
Elekta, a center which is linked to the largest medical university in the
region.”

About 6,000 patients diagnosed with cancer are treated at the institute every
month, and attended by some of Brazil's most qualified professionals in this
specialty. A key feature of the institute is the innovation in assistance, which
allows the patient to have all phases of his care, diagnosis and rehabilitation,
integrated in the same place.

Besides medical care, the professionals of ICESP develop teaching and research
activities in accordance with the medical model of education introduced by the
University of São Paulo Medicine - USP. The goal is to transform the institute
into a research center of international reference in the area of cancer,
including the study of new drugs and innovative treatments for the disease.

Elekta started its own subsidiary in São Paulo in the beginning of 2008, an
investment which has been a success. The Latin American market has successfully
proved to be a growth market for Elekta.

“We are becoming a major player in Brazil and Latin America. This order is a
strong proof that our increased efforts are paying off”, says Olof Sandén,
Executive Vice President for the Region Europe & Latin America. “We are very
impressed with the response that we have received from the market on our
activities and we are looking forward to expand and continue to serve the Latin
American market.”

Elekta Synergy® Platform is a unique linear accelerator that is X-ray volume
imaging (XVI) - ready. Based on the IMRT technology developed by Elekta,
modifications have been undertaken in order to maintain isocenter accuracy and
stability while incorporating the facility to add the additional weight of
imaging, detector and robotic technology into the drum design of the treatment
machine at a later stage.
Elekta Synergy®, the first advanced multi-functional linear accelerator with
intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and image guided radiation therapy
(IGRT), enables clinicians to both image and treat patients in the same frame of
reference, at the time of treatment. The result is unmatched clinical
confidence, enabling more aggressive treatment of tumors while minimizing damage
to surrounding healthy tissue.
Elekta Axesse™ is a fully integrated stereotactic system that combines true
three-dimensional (3D) image guidance at the time of treatment with highly
conformal beam shaping and robotic 6D sub-millimeter patient positioning to
deliver fast, efficient and accurate treatment.

MOSAIQ® is an image-enabled oncology electronic medical record (EMR) with fully
integrated business features such as scheduling, billing and management
reporting and analysis.
