BETHESDA, Md., Aug. 18, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Many people who study martial arts complain that their knowledge will not help them on the street. Their training is not realistic. Their training involves arbitrary rules designed to allow safe competition. They focus primarily on techniques that are useful in unarmed organized competitions. But what if the attacker is armed? Author Frank Seinsheimer III, M.D. proposes a system for Unarmed Defense Against Weapon attacks that is realistic and will work on the street.
There is a very good reason why attackers prefer weapons and why victims fear weapons. Weapons allow an attacker to inflict incapacitating injury faster, easier and from a further distance than attacks without weapons. The majority of physical attacks resulting in serious injury or death involve the use of a weapon. Thus, Dr. Seinsheimer suggests that one should spend more time training in unarmed defense against weapon attacks rather than concentrating on defense against unarmed attacks. Most dojos do not teach realistic self-defense against attacks involving weapons.
Unarmed Defense Against Weapons is not just a book of pretty pictures. It presents a coherent system of concepts and techniques applicable to unarmed defense against weapons. It concentrates on baseball bat, knife, club and gun-weapons that are most likely encountered on the street today. It also covers other important topics like multiple-person attacks and defense in the environment outside of the dojo. Self-defense training is not realistic unless it covers them. Many training exercises are described.
Many of the concepts in this book are derived from the martial arts the author has studied. Others, he has developed from free practice on the mat, trying out different situations and struggling to find ways to handle difficult problems. Successful Unarmed Defense Against Weapons attack is the ultimate challenge in martial arts. This guide encourages and challenges martial artists to take their skills to a higher level. If one trains to defend against a weapon attack, then defense against an unarmed attack suddenly seems much easier. For more information on this book, log on to www.Xlibris.com.
