Fisher Wireless Services Builds Voice and Data Backbone With Exalt Microwave Radio Systems
Largest U.S. Two-Way Radio Provider Upgrades Core Network Infrastructure Using Exalt Systems With Native TDM and Native Ethernet Capabilities

CAMPBELL, CA--(Marketwire - August 31, 2009) - Exalt Communications, the company that is
reinventing microwave backhaul, today announced that Fisher Wireless
Services, the largest provider of local and regional two-way networked
radio service in the United States, has deployed Exalt microwave radio
systems to upgrade its network backbone to support native T1 and Ethernet
services for its customers in California, Nevada, and Arizona.
Fisher Wireless Services provides two-way radio and wireless WAN services
to trucking companies, service fleets, growers and other organizations with
large operations in the southwestern desert. When the company saw a need to
upgrade its microwave backbone ring to support both T1 and Ethernet for
iDEN and other services, Fisher Wireless Services turned to Exalt.
"Our existing network supported only T1 connections, but we saw increasing
opportunity to offer WAN services so we wanted Ethernet," said Harvey
LaFon, systems engineer at Fisher Wireless Services. "The Exalt radio
systems gave us the reach and reliability we needed along with extras like
a built-in spectrum analyzer, which makes it a lot easier and more
cost-effective to manage the network."
Covering large swaths of desert country in the southwestern United States,
the Fisher Wireless network includes
point-to-point radio hops ranging up to 55 miles in length. By using Exalt
radio systems in the 5.8 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands, the company can cover these
distances with Exalt's guaranteed throughput. As configured for Fisher
Wireless Services, the Exalt radio systems carry 4 T1 lines and up to 100
megabits per second of Ethernet data on each link.
