PGT Expands Window Options That Qualify for Federal Energy Tax Credit

N. VENICE, FL--(Marketwire - September 29, 2009) - PGT, Inc. (NASDAQ: PGTI), one of the nation's leading manufacturers of residential impact-resistant windows and doors, today announced it has expanded its portfolio of products that qualify for the federal tax credit under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Qualifying products include PGT Vinyl Series 400, WinGuard® Vinyl Series 500, and SpectraGuard™ Series 2300 products. Homeowners across America can receive a 30% tax credit -- up to $1,500 -- per household for energy efficient home improvements made in 2009 and 2010. In addition, PGT recently acquired the operating assets of Hurricane Window and Door Factory and now offers a portfolio of energy efficient, impact resistant products that also qualify for the tax credit.

"PGT has provided homeowners with quality windows that reduce energy costs, protect homes against weather and intruders, enhance beauty, and eliminate noise for 30 years," said Debbie LaPinska, PGT Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "We continue to evolve our product lines to exceed customer expectations and industry standards. The fact that these windows now qualify for the tax credit is an added bonus for consumers."

PGT products that now qualify for the tax credit:

-- Vinyl Series 400 and WinGuard Vinyl Series 500 -- Single Hung,
Horizontal Roller, Picture/Architectural Window and Casement.
-- SpectraGuard Series 2300 -- Double Hung, Horizontal Roller and
Picture/Architectural Windows. A variety of new Contour Grid options now
apply to all SpectraGuard Series 2300 products in the Standard Energy and
Climate Control Packages. GBG and SDL grids are now qualified for the
Picture/Architectural Window (up to 25 sq. ft) in the Standard Energy
    Package.
-- Hurricane Series -- Recently acquired, the Hurricane product line,
which will soon have a new brand name under PGT, is one of the highest air,
water and structurally rated vinyl impact product lines for the single and
multi-family residential markets. It currently includes six new window
styles: Double Hung, two and three lite Horizontal Roller, Casement, Awning
    and Picture Window.

For tax record keeping purposes, PGT makes available on its website a copy of the PGT Manufacturer Certification Statement (MCS), which the homeowner should keep on hand with a copy of the sales receipt. Visit www.pgtenergytaxcredit.com for more information.

Windows must be purchased and installed during the 2009 or 2010 tax years. The tax credit only applies to the purchase price of the windows and does not include labor costs associated with removal of old windows or installation of new windows.

Like all PGT windows, the Vinyl Series 400 and 500, and the SpectraGuard 2300 Series not only save homeowners money through tax credits, but also lower energy bills by up to 15%. Impact windows and doors block up to 99% of UV rays, resulting in reduced solar heat gain which translates into lower cooling costs. Another important advantage of PGT Vinyl Windows is their construction, designed to effectively insulate and protect homes from natural elements. PGT products meet the most stringent code requirements for hurricane-resistant windows, ensuring that the glass remains intact after impact.
